I'm curious. My girlfriend is thinking of buying a house rather than renting, but she doesn't have any credit history besides paying her rent, utilities etc. She's never bought anything that she didn't actually have the money for, so she's never financed a car either. She always says, if she doesn't have the money, then she won't buy it. After talking with her, I told her that because she doesn't really have a credit history (even credit cards), this will actually hurt her in trying to buy a house. She has the money to put a down payment, but given the economic times I think it is going to be extremely difficult for her. She mentioned something about first time home buyers in TX and getting some breaks? Can anyone shed some light on this.....does she have a shot at buying a house or will she have to start building credit etc.? Thanks.
