All depends on your goals, how much you are willing to manage your accounts, and what kind of risks you are comfortable with. The safest would probably be CD's, and most risky being real estate.

Educate yourself before making a decision.  An IRA isn't an investment.  It is only an account that can hold retirement investments.  An IRA account can contain CDs, stocks, real estate, etc.

Find an investment adviser with the heart of a teacher.
